Love the guy, but it’s really a shame we live in a world where a man with Dawkins’ intellect has to defend everything he says in these quasi-philosophic debates with people who have made a mental decision to disregard any light of reason. Dawkins is doing great work but, even dignifying these game-playing creationists by debating with them is ridiculous. Why would you ever have to argue in favor of fact? Especialy with individuals that say your facts are arbitrary and instead adhere to the belief in something that is ultimately intangible and undefinable.
I think the real argument should be over who has the most to gain by keeping people ignorant to the nature of how science and nature work. Because when evolution is understood, many of the seemingly unknowable elements of life become suddenly apparent. Psychology, social science, even government and religion can all be infinitely better understood for what they are if one is familiar with evolutionary principles and applies them. Now, who wouldn’t want us to understand those things? Who would want us to be afraid of the mysteries of life? Who can gain by keeping people from using their brains and keeping them reliant on something else…. something they pay taxes to, for instance?
